Meet Abby

I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a marriage and family therapist (MFT). I am trained in EMDR and in IFS. I am an AASECT certified sex therapy (CST). I use a combination of these skills and trainings in all of my sessions.

Like you, I have many identities. I’m a therapist, a wife, a mom, a friend, a sister, a daughter. I’m a white cis/het woman. I’m a client, a breast cancer survivor, a community connector, an avid reader of novels, and a person trying to get back to a regular yoga practice. I am dedicated to identifying and working to dismantle power dynamics and the ways that white supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism show up in our systems.

Becoming a therapist is my second career. I spent the first decade after graduate school working in a Philadelphia hospital in different administrative roles. This work taught me the complexity and business of healthcare and what it takes to work in a corporate environment. I then co-founded Fishtown Playschool, a cooperatively run collaborative community in Fishtown, while I was working from home raising my young children.

When the time was right, I enrolled in the the clinical post-graduate program at Council for Relationships, where I learned to be a systemic relational therapist. While I developed those clinical skills, I also worked as the social worker in an HIV clinic.

I don’t take my role as a therapist for granted and I know how challenging it can be to “do the work.” I believe each person’s life is full of rich experiences beyond the presenting concern. You are the expert in your life; my role is to support you with curiosity and compassion as you learn more about how you show up.
